My favorite Summit County ski area, A-Basin, has announced its new Double Down 2-Season Pass for $499 which gets you a pass for this season and next and locks in the price of the pass even if prices go up next year. The one-season pass costs $299.
Additionally, A-Basin has announced plans to construct a new lift and open 412 acres of terrain immediately west of the sacred Pali terrain.
This is currently a backcountry area called the Beavers that is accessed from the ski area via backcountry access gates.
This new lift and terrain will transform A-Basin dramatically and add another layer of fantastic terrain. Best of all, A-Basin hasn’t expressed any interest in building mega-condo complexes, hotels or real estate – it’s all about the skiing at A-Basin. Even with this new lift and terrain, I don’t expect crowds to increase with so many other ski areas nearby. More people will still go to Breck, Keystone and Vail. It’s predictable: when Vail reports a foot of new snow and A-Basin reports six, the masses flock to Vail.
A-Basin’s proposed terrain expansion offers a big bowl, steep chutes and glades. A-Basin is also discussing a new T-bar to access areas of Montezuma Bowl from the top of the Lenawee chair. More info as it’s available will be available here.
