Saturday we loaded up the truck and headed to the local mountains to camp for no reason at all. We just wanted to be outside, pitch a tent, ride some singletrack and drink beers by a fire. On the way to look for a camp site in the Vedauwoo/Happy Jack Recreation Area, a thunderstorm rolled right over us. We took our time looking for a site and let the storm run its course.
This is BLM land so the camping is free. We found a nice location with a fire pit and set up camp. It was our new dog Grizzly’s first camping excursion. We rescued Grizzly, about a year old now, from the local humane society.
We brought our mountain bikes to ride some sweet singletrack nearby. I rode first while Kaitlyn watched the dogs, and then when I got back she took off.
While Kaitlyn was riding I kept the fire blazing.
When Kaitlyn returned we cooked dinner and enjoyed some tasty Wyoming microbrews by the fire as a rain shower passed through the area.
The rain didn’t last long though. Soon the skies cleared and the sun highlighted some of the gorgeous nearby terrain.
Then it was time to drink more beer and enjoy the stars and the fire.
Sometimes there is no reason at all to go camping except to just enjoy the outdoors elements.

Sometimes you do just need to get away and just be.
