Camping, Mountain Biking

Camping, mountain bikes, fire and beer

Saturday we loaded up the truck and headed to the local mountains to camp for no reason at all.  We just wanted to be outside, pitch a tent, ride some singletrack and drink beers by a fire.  On the way to look for a camp site in the Vedauwoo/Happy Jack Recreation Area, a thunderstorm rolled right over us.  We took our time looking for a site and let the storm run its course.

This is BLM land so the camping is free.  We found a nice location with a fire pit and set up camp.  It was our new dog Grizzly’s first camping excursion.  We rescued Grizzly, about a year old now, from the local humane society.

We brought our mountain bikes to ride some sweet singletrack nearby.  I rode first while Kaitlyn watched the dogs, and then when I got back she took off.

Camping and biking makes for a sweet Saturday evening in the mountains

While Kaitlyn was riding I kept the fire blazing.

I love a robust camp fire

When Kaitlyn returned we cooked dinner and enjoyed some tasty Wyoming microbrews by the fire as a rain shower passed through the area.

Food, beer and fire with a bit of rain

The rain didn’t last long though.  Soon the skies cleared and the sun highlighted some of the gorgeous nearby terrain.

The terrain in this area just continues to boggle my mind

Then it was time to drink more beer and enjoy the stars and the fire.

Wyoming Pale Ale and fire!

Sometimes there is no reason at all to go camping except to just enjoy the outdoors elements.

These are some of the best times in life.

  1. Sometimes you do just need to get away and just be.
