These were the prints left by me and my dog Tiva, (RIP) while exploring the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado three years ago. She was 10-years old, and you can see by the marks in the sand how she would drag her right rear foot when she started getting tired.
If you look closely you will also notice that my left footprints are not indented in the sand as much as my right footprints. That’s because on the evening prior to this excursion into the sand dunes I had rolled and sprained my ankle badly — while setting up camp. Dumb, I know. I heard it “pop” and instantly knew what I’d done.
My ankle was highly swollen and in pain, however I wasn’t going to let it stop me and my dog from exploring the dunes. Not by a long shot.
Despite the pain and limited mobility, I navigated us up, across and down the dunes, albeit slowly, and it was a magnificent outing. I can’t wait to get back there again and explore the dunes with two healthy ankles.
